Workshop for non-profits

There will be a free how-to workshop for nonprofit groups considering adding a for-profit component to their organizations. The workshop is being offered by Seedco’s Nonprofit Venture Network, which supports community-based organizations with technical and business know-how needed to launch or expand socially conscious for-profit ventures.

The 2003 MetLife Foundation Introductory Workshop Series on Social Purpose Businesses will give basic information about the field of social entrepreneurship, and will focus on developing business plans. Nonprofits that attend the workshop and are located or operating south of 14th St. are also eligible to apply for additional business planning assistance through the Entrepreneurial Assistance Fund, a year-long program that provides pre-development grants of up to $12,000 and intensive technical assistance to help organizations develop a business plan.

The workshop, open to all New York City area non-profits, will take place at N.Y.U.’s Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, on Mon., Dec. 15 from 8:30 a.m.-4.30 p.m. and Tues., Dec. 16 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. To register, call 212-204-1316.
