The New American Youth Ballet, founded by Elizabeth Fernandez (pictured at right) and Bonnie Fernandez, makes classical ballet accessible to all by offering lessons and performing opportunities by donation. There is no audition required to allow all students the joy of dance and music through their involvement in full-length ballets. The programs goal is to enhance the students self image through instruction that nurtures the whole child while offering a healthy, uplifting and non-competitive environment.
Instruction is based on the Vagonova Syllabus, a method used in the Kirov and Bolshoi ballets that integrates a freedom that encourages each dancer to develop in an individual style. Through consistent training and additional practice at home, students can experience visible improvement and mastery of steps.
A variety of classes to suit the ages and ability levels of the students are offered. Students ages 6 and up are recommend to take 2 classes per week, more classes per week are suggested for older students. Pre Ballet classes are also offered that incorporate the use of music, songs and stories to introduce children to ballet vocabulary. Parents are welcome to observe the class and gain an understanding of their childs training.
A spring performance will showcase the students work on the first or second weekend in June. The exact date and location will be decided later. All students are invited to participate.
