Desperate search for ballet group

The New American Youth Ballet is looking for help. It’s just six weeks before they are scheduled to perform the Downtown Nutcracker, and they find themselves suddenly without a place to rehearse or to conduct classes. The group had been meeting at a building in the southern part of Battery Park City, but the room there is no longer available. The group hopes to secure a permanent space by the new year, but say they are desperate to find temporary space immediately.

Specifically, they need a rehearsal room on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Thursdays, 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. until mid-December. Anyone who knows of an available room Downtown can contact the ballet group’s director, Elizabeth Fernandez at 212-945-2926 or 607-725-5092.

The mission of the New American Youth Ballet, a non-profit organization, is to make ballet instruction accessible to all children, regardless of financial circumstances. The Downtown Nutcracker will be performed on Sat., Dec. 18 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Stuyvesant High School. Tickets can be purchased by calling 212-945-2926.
