Marvelous day for a Moon Festival
Magician Wu Su Xiong, aka Chino, below left, performed a card trick Sunday with the help of Wendy Lin, 10, as part of the two-week Autumn Moon Festival in Chinatown Sunday. The holiday dates back to Chinas Song Dynasty 1,000 years ago and is also celebrated in Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. It is a celebration of abundance and togetherness and is considered to be akin to Thanksgiving and Valentines Day in America. Mooncakes are traditionally eaten. The Autumn Moon Festival occurs on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar, which this year was Sept. 28, but Chinatowns festival, organized by the Better Chinatown Society and Explore Chinatown, continues through Oct. 9 with special restaurant discounts and a Taste of Chinatown event on Oct. 2 from noon 6 p.m. Restaurants throughout the neighborhood will be offering $1 tastings on the Saturday afternoon.
