In its sixth year, Evening Stars is New York City’s largest free outdoor dance festival. This year, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and The Joyce Theater are teaming up to present an eclectic showcase of the world’s premier dance companies. As a part of the River to River Festival, Evening Stars is a celebration of downtown New York City and the arts.

The festival showcases various performers daily from September 9 through the 12. On opening day, see world-renowned modern dance companies such as Battleworks, Doug Varone and Dancers, MOMIX, and PHILADANCO at 7:30 pm. Savion Glover and guests tap out exuberant rhythms of jazz, neo-soul, rock-n-roll, funk, and R&B on Sept. 10 at 7:30 pm. On Sept. 11 at 7:30 pm there will be the first large-scale arts presentation in Lower Manhattan on the anniversary of the attacks. Special commemorative performances by Buglisi/Foreman Dance, Limon Dance Company, and Paul Taylor Dance Company will be included. Join the Chinese Folk Dance Company, Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, and Sean Curran Company on Sept 12 at 2 pm for an afternoon of joyful folk traditions updated with a contemporary twist. The festival will conclude on Sept. 12 with a 7:30 pm performance by the American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, New York City Ballet, and BalletMet Columbus with works ranging from the contemporary to the classic.

The Battery Lawn stage area is accessible from State Street at Pearl, just west of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. No glass or alcoholic beverages are permitted. The park opens one hour before showtime. Bring a blanket for ground seating.
