Train center design

The $2-billion train center plan by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, was unveiled to the public in January. The glass building will allow natural light to reach the train platforms below the street. In warm weather, the roof could be opened and would sway with the wind, top. It will connect the PATH commuter trains to the nearby subways and is likely to have an underground connection to a new link to JFK Airport and the Long Island Rail Road. Construction on the center is expected to begin early next year and open in late 2006. The hub will be entirely finished by 2009, but the temporary PATH station, which opened in November, is expected to remain active throughout construction.
