Conquering America one borough at a time
There she is
Miss Manhattan. Thats her on the right, although Kandice Pelletier, 22, was not yet Miss Manhattan when this photo was taken at the Embassy Suites in Battery Park City March 19. She took the boroughs top honors and a $1,500 scholarship the next night and will compete for the Miss New York prize in June with hopes of becoming Miss America in September. If for some reason Pelletier, a Rockette, is not able to fulfill her duties as Miss Manhattan, Amelia Nelson, left, 22, the first runner-up and a recent graduate of New York University, will step in. Pelletier, a junior at N.Y.U. who now lives in Hells Kitchen, is given good chances to take the state contest since she was a runner-up in the Miss Georgia competition last year. The contestants stayed in the Downtown hotel before the contest.
