Dollars and dining with Obama were in Vogue in Soho
Celebrity sightings are common in Soho, sure. But there’s something extra-special about a presidential visit: security, for one. Police shut down Sullivan St. between Houston and Bleecker Sts. last Wednesday for President Obama’s visit to the townhouse of Anna Wintour, the influential Vogue editor in chief, where he attended a reported $30,000-a-plate fundraising dinner. Passing a Sanitation truck loaded with sand, part of the protective measures, fashionistas Calvin Klein and Donna Karan arrived together, above, as did another couple, below. A large tent was set up in front of Wintour’s house, manned by what looked to be Secret Service agents, who checked everything thoroughly, even flower bouquets. In a fitting detail, in one townhouse down the street from Wintour’s, a lone Obama campaign sign hung in a window.
