Haitian school talk
Jacqueline Fils-Aimé and her son Nicholas, right, spoke to Nicholas’ classmates at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn last Friday morning about the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. Jacqueline’s sister Andree Carroll Celestin Hector runs a school in Port-au-Prince, which was featured in the Feb. 5 – 11 issue of Downtown Express. The Fils-Aimés, who live in Tribeca, hope to raise money to help the Children’s Harvest school recover from the quake, which killed at least five students. Jean-Paul Fils-Aimé, Nicholas’ father, also spoke with the students at Poly Prep. The school has already raised over $6,500 for Haiti and has several additional fundraisers planned. “Kids are in the street,” Jacqueline told the students. “We want to ensure this school can keep them busy and keep them off the streets.”
