Canal a little more clear
Normally congested Canal St. was free of illegal sidewalk vendors last Saturday. An officer at the scene said the crackdown was prompted by a recent altercation involving a vendor accused of assaulting an officer. On Oct. 10 police, who were enforcing peddler violations, arrested the vendor. Last weekend, vendors moved over to Broadway and were more discreet keeping their wares in their bags, rigtht.
