The New York Police Dept. held a ceremony last Wednesday at the Police Memorial in Battery Park City to honor Detective Jaime Betancourt, 34, and Police Officer Disdale O. Enton, 33, who were both killed in the line of duty last year. Betancourt, a Bronx narcotics detective, was killed on March 31, 2002 in an altercation with a knife-wielding man. Enton, an officer in the 113th Precinct in Jamaica, Queens, died on August 28 from an aneurysm after chasing a suspect wanted for domestic violence. Their names are now inscribed on the memorials wall. Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and James Gill, chairperson of the Battery Park City Authority, attended the ceremony.
