Volume 21, Number 1 | THE NEWSPAPER OF LOWER MANHATTAN | May 16 - 22, 2008
Sailing with Dennis Conner
Setting sail like the pros is now possible in Lower Manhattan with two authentic Amercia’s Cup training boats provided by four-time America’s Cup winner Dennis Conner.
The boats have been used by Conner to train his crew since 1994 and were later rented to C.E.O.’s of many Fortune 500 companies to sail around the country, said Sharon Phair, spokesperson for the Manhattan Sailing Club.
Conner is a partner in the group that runs North Cove marina.
Each boat holds six guests who can help the crew and captain during the two-hour ride to trim the sheets and grind the winches, or simply relax and enjoy the ride in front of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline.
The boats are docked at North Cove marina, in Battery Park City in front of the World Financial Center at South End Avenue and Liberty St. Public sails are offered every day at 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at $95 a person through August 24.
