Throwback bus

A vintage double-decker bus was on display in front of N.Y.C. Transit’s headquarters at 2 Broadway last week. The bus built by the Yellow Coach Company (a subsidiary of General Motors) in 1931, was operated by the 5th Avenue Coach Company until 1953 when the company ceased use of double-decker buses. Originally known as bus No. 1263, it was part of an order of the last 56 front-end powered twin-level enclosed Z-BH602 model buses produced. It stands just over 14 feet tall and also saw service in Nevada, Alaska and Toronto before it was sold to the N.Y. Transit Museum in 2004.
