Hanukkah Downtown
Jewish Downtowners celebrated Hanukkah in homes, synagogues and parks all over Lower Manhattan for eight December nights. Dolores Wine, kiddish coordinator at Synagogue for the Arts, made potato latkes, the traditional holiday delicacy, in batches of 40 last Friday. She made over 300 for the Tribeca synagogue. Gov. Elliot Spitzer literally pulled some strings Downtown to close out the eight-day holiday on a wet and chilly Tuesday night in Bowling Green Park, below. Spitzer, Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis, Borough President Scott Stringer (not shown), and others pulled a string to turn on one of the menorah’s lights on the festival of lights’ last night.
