Photog sees the 60s through rose-colored lenses
At Sohos Morrison Hotel gallery at the end of last month, Herb Greene posed beside his classic shot of the Jefferson Airplane, used for the cover of their album Surrealistic Pillow. The gallery, at 116 Prince St., is currently exhibiting Greenes 1967 San Francisco photos in a show titled Summer of Love: The Last Gasp. Asked how he always got his rock-star subjects, like Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin and Robert Plant, so relaxed, Greene who was known as the Grateful Deads photographer said, It was a gift, then added, I dont have it anymore. The show runs until Oct. 17.
