Honoring Frederick Douglass
One hundred and sixty nine years ago, Frederick Douglas escaped from slavery and docked on the Hudson River near Chambers St., which was a stop on the Underground Railroad. On Wednesday, officials unveiled a new sign co-naming Chambers St. Frederick Douglass Landing, right near the entrance to the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Assemblymember Deborah Glick, Councilmember Alan Gerson, B.M.C.C. president Antonio Perez and Rev. Herbert Daugherty paid tribute to the abolitionist hero at the ceremony.
