Hedge fund race

This year’s fourth annual Hedge Fund Regatta was nearly a photo finish in Downtown’s harbor Monday. “Three of the teams almost won and it came down to the last 30 yards of the race,” said Michael Fortenbaugh, commodore of the Manhattan Sailing Club, which organized the race. “That’s how close the competition was.” The Connecticut Hedge Fund Association, led by captain Doug Douglas, won the race and a night of sailing aboard Moët & Chandon’s 12-meter yacht “America II,” which raced in the 1987 America’s Cup. The skippers of the top three teams also received magnum bottles of champagne made by the race’s sponsor, Moët & Chandon. It was the largest participation ever in the event. Thirty teams competed in two 15-team qualifying races in July, with half making it to the final race on Monday.
