Streets and subway flooded
Early morning rain Wednesday flooded Downtown streets and caused subway shutdowns throughout the city. Much of the system was down in the morning and slowly came back The 1,2,3 service in Lower Manhattan took longer to restore. By the early evening, service to Queens was very limited but most other service had been restored. The area around W. Broadway and Grand St. was particularly hard hit, above and middle right. Drivers tried to avoid the lakes of Soho. An M.T.A. worker getting off his shift at 6 a.m. at the Canal St. (A,C,E) station wasnt able to get to his car at Grand and Thompson St. until 7 a.m. Below, a worker cleans up the Chambers St. (1,2,3) before the station was reopened later in the day.
