A Downtown Express Special Supplement Tribeca Film Festival 2007
Fine art mashup Making its North American premiere at sites across Manhattan this weekend, Paolo Cherchi Usai’s “Passio” might be the Tribeca Film Festival’s best bet for fine art aficionados. Fusing together Arvo Part’s classical score “Passio” — which many hail as the last great musical masterpiece of last century — with a silent black-and-white mirage of images pulled from across the 20th century, “Passio” is more notable for where festival organizers plan to show it. This Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28, “Passio” will be showing at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine near Columbia University. Sunday the 29th, it will show Downtown at Trinity Church. And all performances will feature a live musical accompaniment. One thing’s certain: It will be a movie event unlike any other to be found at Tribeca. — David Johnson
