Bergtraum A.P. gets 10 years

Steven Rubinstein, 50, a former assistant principal at Murry Bergtraum High School in Lower Manhattan, was sentenced Monday in White Plains federal court to 10 years in prison for trading child pornography and for attempting to entice two minors (who were actually two undercover officers) to meet with him to engage in sexual activities, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Federal Judge Colleen McMahon sentenced Rubinstein, a former Poughkeepsie resident, to 10 years in jail and recommended an intensive therapy program and five years of supervised release after the jail time.

McMahon said that Rubinstein was the worst kind of offender because he worked in the public education system, that is, until his arrest in the spring. The federal prosecutor said Rubinstein had solicited the officers, whom he believed were 13-year-old girls, from his school computer as well as from one at home.
