How good is the air were breathing Downtown? Portable testing kits allow you to see for yourself.
A bad read
Concerned about air quality in Lower Manhattan? Test it yourself this week when art/technology collective Preemptive Media [PM] launches AIR, or Areas Immediate Reading. Using the first Social Sculpture Commission (SSC) from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Eyebeam, PM developed portable air quality measurement kits to monitor various air pollutants in Lower Manhattan, as well as create data visualizations of their findings. The public is invited to its opening on Thursday, September 14, from 5 PM to 7 PM, to try out one of the devices, and perhaps to even take one away from the storefront where theyll be modeling the data based upon the readings from devices traveling with volunteers throughout the city. AIRs temporary headquarters, located in a storefront just east of 125 Maiden Lane, will also be open 9/15, 9/16 & 9/18-21 from 12-7 pm. Visit www.pm-air.net for more information.
