ATrain stabbing

A Bronx man was arrested in connection with the stabbing of a woman four months pregnant and her male friend on a crowded northbound C train north of the W. Fourth St. station at 6:15 p.m. Wed. April 19, police said. The woman, 23, and her friend, 22, were treated at St. Vincent’s hospital and both were released the following day. The unborn baby was not harmed,

The suspect, Edward Murphy, 41, of 3340 Gunther Ave., Bronx, was arrested at the W. 34 St. station and a knife was found on the tracks between the two stations, police said.

The incident began when the suspect accused the woman of staring at him and then punched her in the head, police said. Her companion interposed his body between them and received two stab wounds in the back. The woman was stabbed in the shoulder, police said.

Murphy is being held in lieu of bail and is due in court May 31.
