An SUV driven by a N.Y.P.D. Internal Affairs chief crashed into a Mercedes Wednesday morning.

Crash involves police
Two pedestrians were injured in an 8:52 a.m. accident on Wed. April 12 when an unmarked SUV, driven by a N.Y.P.D. Internal Affairs chief, was making a left turn from Houston St. onto a southbound lane of W. Broadway, said Captain Anthony Bologna, First Precinct commanding officer.

A Mercedes Benz traveling east on Houston St. struck the SUV turning onto the street. The SUV hurtled across a Con Edison excavation on W. Broadway and landed on the sidewalk in front of Dos Caminos restaurant, Bologna said. Two pedestrians and the drivers of both cars were slightly injured and taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital where they were treated and released.

Phony plumbers are crooks
Two men who pose as plumbers or repairmen have been conning their way into the apartments of elderly residents in the several Downtown neighborhoods, including two in Soho, and stealing whatever they could find, police said.

The thieves, described as white men in their late 20s or early 30s, from 5’6” to 5’9” and medium build, have victimized 13 residents in the First, Sixth, Ninth, 10th and 13th Precincts from Feb. 5 to April 4, police said.

Once the pair is admitted to an apartment, one of them distracts the resident while the other searches the apartment for whatever they can carry off, police said.

The targets in Soho were a Broome St. apartment on the afternoon of March 26 and a Thompson St. apartment on the afternoon of Sun. Feb. 4. On Thurs. Feb 23 the pair victimized a resident of Barrow St. On Tuesday morning, Feb. 7, they hit an apartment on E. 6th St., on Fri. March 3 they found a victim on E. Third St. and on Sunday afternoon March 5 they struck on St. Marks Pl. On Feb. 23, the thieves entered and stole from an apartment on E. 14th St., police said.

In Chelsea, they stole from an apartment on W. 15th St. on Feb. 7 and on March 26 they hit an apartment on Eighth Ave. just an hour after they victimized a resident of Stuyvesant Town in the 13th Precinct.
