Soaked fields cancels most soccer games

Saturday’s Downtown Soccer League games were cancelled after a long week of rain. By Sunday, the sun dried up the fields enough for another weekend of Downtown Soccer League play.

The rains stopped and the sun came out for Sunday’ s match between Paris SG and Marseille. Emma Gilberg set up some early scoring chances. Great goal keeping from Henry Gunderson kept Paris off the scoreboard in the first half. Marseille had tough defense by Bridget Doherty and Rebecca Anthony. Paris got rolling and scored two goals early in the second half, but the final goal was maybe the goal of the year when, on a cross-the-field pass from Jake Bader, Roy Vick headed the ball in.

Downtown Soccer League coaches should e-mail game highlights Monday mornings to news@DowntownExpress.com.
