False bridge scare

The Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday afternoon was strangely empty except for the police SUV on the median to the right and the officer (lower left) posted to keep pedestrians off. The bridge was closed to all traffic both ways at 3 p.m. May 14 when a truck was abandoned near the Brooklyn side. Traffic became jammed in Lower Manhattan for a few hours until police declared the truck was no danger at 5 p.m. and re-opened the bridge. The driver told police on Sunday that the truck broke down and that he wasn’t able to get help. No charges were filed.
