Downtowners tournament team
This weekend marks the onset of the 2003 baseball tournament, where players of the Downtown Little League hope to field a team that will get back to Williamsburg this year, said Downtown manager Robert Kolb, referring to the town in Pennsylvania where the Little League World series will be held. Last season, the Downtowners were treated to a midseason weekend of play in the baseball Mecca and this year they are hoping to earn a trip to the Show.
The teams first captain, Alex Ortega will pitch against Greenwich Village on Friday June 27, at 5:30 a.m., holding at J.J. Walker field on Carmine and Hudson St. The other Downtown players, Peter Barbieri, David Cerami, Tomas DiCarlo, Adam Edwards, Liam Kolb, Victor Malinowski, Nicholas Mauceri, and Joseph Tuzzino, will play the field.
It is important for our kids to have as much support from the community as possible, stated Kolb, who will manage the team alongside coaches Ralph Tuzzino and Glen Goldberg. He expressed gratitude at the support already received from sponsors Brian and Abby Lydon of Morans restaurant, to whom he is very grateful
for getting us new uniforms. They have been longtime supporters for our cause.
Downtowns second game will be played against East Harlem on Sunday June 29, also at J.J. Walker field, at either 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. The team is looking forward to great success this year, in order to get back to Williamsburg by their own design
said Kolb.
