Car kills sailor
A livery cab struck a U.S. Navy man at 4 a.m. Sun. May 25 at the corner of Leonard and Church Sts., police said. The victim, Philip Simone, 20, was on liberty from his ship during Fleet Week. Police said he stumbled and fell into the street just before he was hit. He was taken to NYU Downtown Hospital where he died that afternoon. No charges were filed against the driver.

River death
Police retrieved the body of a man as yet unidentified from the East River at Pier 11 near Wall St. on Wednesday morning, May 21. The medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death or identified the victim.

Man shot
An unknown suspect shot a man in the leg on Cherry St. and Catherine Slip at 3:50 a.m. on Wed. May 28, police said. The victim, described as a black man, 22, was taken to Bellevue in stable condition. Police are investigating.

Sexual abuse
A man who put a box cutter to the throat of a woman who was walking on Delancey St, at 8:30 p.m. Thurs. May 29, robbed and sexually abused her, police said. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man, 5 ft. 6 in., weighing about 160 pounds, grabbed the victim from behind, forced her into a doorway where he sodomized her and robbed her before fleeing, police said.

The victim was taken to NYU Downtown Hospital and treated for lacerations of the neck. The suspect’s age was not described. Police are investigating the case.
