Grocer, shelter group team up to help needy families

Help make the holidays brighter for a family in need! Shoppers at Gristedes are invited to make a donation at the register through Thanksgiving weekend for the supermarket chain’s annual “Put a Turkey on the Table of a Needy Family” campaign with St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters.

The company raised more than $20,000 last year to purchase turkeys for underprivileged New Yorkers, thanks to its big-hearted patrons.

Donations to the St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters turkey drive are acknowledged with cards posted on the walls of Gristedes supermarkets.

“Gristedes is fortunate to have so many loyal and caring customers who pitch in to support worthy charitable causes, such as this one,” said chairman and chief executive officer John Catsimatidi.

The donations bring comfort and joy, added the pantry’s co-founder.

“They help us give many deserving families an enjoyable and happy Thanksgiving dinner,” said Fr. Francis Gasparik.

St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters supports a network of charitable programs that provide a broad range of services for those in need, including the provisions of food, clothing, shelter, and related social services for the poor.
